It’s rookie dynasty draft season. We are just a few days removed from the NFL Draft, but I’ve hammered out a top 40 for you to use during your upcoming rookie drafts. Mine will likely look different than the rest, but this is the board I’ll use for all of my drafts. This comes from conclusions drawn from film work, athletic testing and of course pure opportunity.
First a few notes before you dig into these rankings.
So yes, Leonard Fournette is my 5th ranked option here. I don’t love him behind that mediocre offensive line. While Cam Robinson helps, I’m just not sure he’s enough of a creator to be dynamic early on in his career. He won’t have the luxury he had at LSU. Add in the fact that Jacksonville is likely playing from behind a lot and you start to see why I just don’t love his situation. I’m likely just going to let someone else take their shot here.
Christian McCaffrey and Corey Davis are homerun dynasty selections for me. Both should be focal points in their respective offenses and offer you with two of the highest floors in the class. Guys like Dalvin Cook and Joe Mixon are more talented than the guys in front of them, but will likely suffer from opportunity early on. I like all four of the guys I just mentioned long term over Fournette.
One other note: I didn’t include the quarterbacks in my top 40. I never do. This year’s class is really odd as Deshaun Watson is likely the only day one starter of the bunch. If you need a quarterback, I don’t have a problem going with Watson fairly early. The others are simple fliers. I love Mahomes, but you’re going to have to keep him for a shelf for at least a year with no returns. Who knows what’s going to happen in Chicago with Trubisky. I’ll let you figure out where to take the passers, but this is how I’d rank the positional players.
