For the better part of the past couple months, it seemed like the Bears were locked in on a prime defender with the 3rd overall selection in the NFL Draft. They paid Mike Glennon pretty well, giving the impression that they were out on passers this year. That’s apparently not the case.
CSN’s John Mullin now expects the Bears to select Deshaun Watson with their 3rd pick. Read his quote.
Earlier thought was that the Bears might be looking at a safety — LSU’s Jamal Adams or Ohio State’s Malik Hooker — but the Bears have conducted some of the most exhaustive research and evaluations in recent memory not of one quarterback but multiple quarterback prospects, in particular Notre Dame’s DeShone Kizer, Texas Tech’s Pat Mahomes and Clemson’s Deshaun Watson.
And the expectation here is that Watson will be the Bears’ selection.
So that’s a big change. This could alter the course of the top five and take teams like the Jaguars, Titans and Jets out of trading back. It would also force Marshon Lattimore, Malik Hooker and Solomon Thomas down the board. Could we see the 49ers go with Mitchell Trubisky? Absolutely.
I think we end up seeing the quarterbacks go 2nd and 3rd overall. I’d expect Patrick Mahomes to last into the teens. From there, it’s anyone’s guess where Kizer, Webb, Dobbs and Peterman end up. Every year the race for these quarterbacks gets nutty. It’s no different in 2017.
We’ve also got this from a plugged in Eric Galko.
I wouldn’t assume #Bears QB target in the top-10 is Deshaun Watson.
One source I spoke to yesterday believes their QB1 is Patrick Mahomes.

Is this smoke? Maybe. It is lying season after all. But the quarterbacks were always going to rise. It’s like clockwork. Teams panic and feel like they have to take one. The Bears interest is odd, however with Glennon in the fold — considering his brand new 3 year, 45 million dollar deal.
